“… in the run of the last years Unidram has become with one of the major Festivals for Off Theatre in Germany. Slowly but steadfastly it won the race in the end. The fruit of 16 years of endeavours and work is ripe to be harvested. … The people here truly believe in the force of theatre, shaking and changing the world as well as wit.”

UNIDRAM embodies a type of probing, searching forum, a forum of modern theatre, innovative in content and form. There is a particular focus on the type of performance that operate at the boundaries of acting, dance, visual and performance art. The concept underlying the festival is an encounter between fringe theatre groups on a personal as well as a work basis. Such an encounter extends beyond the scope of the daily performances to workshops and discussions, thereby facilitating an intense artistic dialogue.

UNIDRAM aims to instigate an intercultural dialogue among artists from different countries that leads to long-term coproductions and partnerships. This should provide less established theatre companies from Eastern and Western Europe with an opportunity for access to international theatre circles.

Cultural and political understanding, not to mention natural artistic affinities, are best manufactured through personal contact. For this reason, the organisers of UNIDRAM insist on creating a social space, whose climate is defined by its openness, by possibilities for exchange and encounter, and whose atmosphere is both friendly and familiar.

In 2010 the focus will be again on young and creative theatre. A total of 15 theatre companies from Germany, Eastern and Western Europe will be invited to participate in Unidram for nine days in Potsdam. The groups remain present for the duration of the festival and are thus in continual contact with other theatre performers and spectators. radiates the characteristic atmosphere of the festival, which allows the predominantly young audience of Berlin and Potsdam to immerse in the world of theatre. An appropriate framework is formed by the Theatre-Night-Café, concerts, parties. Especially the Long Nights provide a framework and the highlights of the festival.

UNIDRAM 2010 took place under the patronage of Matthias Platzeck, Head of the Federal State of Brandenburg and Jann Jakobs, Mayor of the City of Potsdam.
