Object theatre with live music

Company
Tr’espace was founded in 2002 by the artists and diabolo jugglers Petronella von Zerboni and Roman Müller. With their performances combining classical circus, cabaret and Nouveau Cirque, they have managed to make the leap from the circus ring to dance and theatre stages. They have performed in more than 25 countries on every continent and have been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.

Performance
String, wires, gadgetry. An old sewing machine with a foot pedal, a hovering pendulum, sawdust and, right in the middle, a concert grand. And the diabolo, the circus prop that needs to be kept moving. But how can you keep it spinning so that it slides along the string? Is it possible to relinquish this work to a machine? Forgotten as a children’s toy and used mainly just for juggling, Tr’espace rediscovers the diabolo, or to put it more poetically, reinvents it – as a narrator that spins tales about the relationship between man and machine and the loss of human endeavour, about the deceptiveness of automation and manipulation, and above all about beauty, precision and the victory of idleness.
