Farm in the Cave

Prague, Czech Republic
Dance Theatre

Company
Since 2001, Farm in the Cave, with its international cast, has been working together with the director Viliam Dočolomanský. At present, it is one of the most interesting groups in the Czech and Slovak theatre scene. Its work is characterised by a very strong physical, almost expending input of the actors and the stirring use of music. Farm in the Cave relies on the power and energy of sheer physicality. They have performed twice at UNIDRAM before.

Performance
The stage is a combination of a street corner at night, a dusty market square, run-down ballroom and a bloody arena. Rhythmic stomping, live percussion, trumpet staccatos. Men and women: furious, sensual, erotic. They move desperately until exhaustion. They dance as if fighting in rival gangs. Against the background of America's colonisation, Theatre presents a vision of the effects on colonisers as well as indigenous peoples. A harmonious approach of two fundamentally different cultures seems impossible here. Travesty and parody of carnival, different musical influences such as flamenco, samba de coco or cavalo marinho blend into a circensic, expressive dance theatre, a party with an extremely Southern flair full of love, pride, anger, violence, fear and death.
