Where does this never-ending street lead to? ‘Transport: Cargo’ follows the fate of a lorry driver who is under an enormous time pressure to deliver his load. Models of motorways and service areas that are faithful down to the smallest detail are brought to life using tiny figures and vehicles. On the one hand, these reveal how transport routes form the foundation of global interconnectedness – and on the other, they bring to life the brutal world of modern commerce and its dynamics of economic growth, consumption, environmental pollution and the infringement of workers’ rights. But then, a single night suddenly offers an unexpected encounter, and is followed, the next day, by a shocking event that reflects current moral and ethical dilemmas.

The Maribor Puppet Theatre was founded in 1974 and stands for the symbiosis of tradition and avant-garde research. Its repertoire ranges from traditional fairytales for children through to complex plays for adults. From classic puppet theatre through contemporary object theatre all the way to interdisciplinary performances – the ensemble’s explicit intention is to use puppets as a powerful symbol of human experiences. Through their collaborations with international directors, they create five new pieces a year, which appeal to audiences with their aesthetic diversity and present puppet theatre as a contemporary art form for all generations.
