Whimsical, baroque and fast-paced – in ‘VIOLENT’, a Dadaistic and poetic space is created, full of contradictory ideas and unbridled sensory overload. Inspired by the photographs, GIFs and videos of digital media, the ideology of consumerism as an inevitable way of life is pushed to the furthest extreme. The piece’s two almost twinlike protagonists wander aimlessly through an alogical world, as if they were in a theme park with great potential for ludicrous mishaps. In an absurd mix of dance, clownery, circus and song, located somewhere between escalation and excess, a disinhibited world develops, in which control, reason and meaning appear not to stand a chance anymore.

The Société Protectrice de Petites Idées (SPPI), which was founded in 2014 in the Breton town of Guingamp, is an interdisciplinary company that creates hybrid projects which move between dance, circus, performance and video. Its trademark is an electrifying tension between technical precision and the charm of improvisation. Simultaneously kitschy, burlesque and with a hint of trashiness, the aesthetics of its stagings elude any attempt at categorisation. Its aim is to live a life of radical artistic freedom and, in so doing, to challenge its audiences. The company’s productions are currently touring throughout France and Europe.
