Inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel Invisible Cities, the stories of thousands of displaced people are the subject of Invisible Lands, in which the familiar human body becomes a perilous, unknown terrain. Miniature figures are placed in his landscapes in specific physical positions and situations, and filmed live. The combination of child’s play and live storytelling, as well as micro- and macro-perspectives, makes it clear that opinions about refugee stories are always a question of viewpoint. At the same time, the urge to save one’s own skin is portrayed on stage, in a literal sense.

Livsmedlet theatre is a collaboration between the Israeli puppeteer, director and actor Ishmael Falke and the Swedish dancer, choreographer and director Sandrina Lindgren. The duo, based in Turku, Finland, was founded in 2011 with the aim of creating innovative works for theatre that focus on visual expression. In their interdisciplinary works that combine visual and physical theatre, they collaborate with artists from the fields of dance, film, visual arts and puppetry. In the meantime, the ensemble has toured throughout Europe.
