Visual Theatre, 60 minutes, nonverbal
An empty space – like an enormous black hole in a strange galaxy. Does gravity even work here? Is there a way in or a way out? A crazy slapstick comedy with melodramatic romance emerges from dynamically choreographed movements and encounters. The protagonists interweave with each other, expressing their differing stories, hurtling in free-fall towards the end. With an almost hypnotic pull, conventions are turned into confetti, space into turmoil and the themes seem endless in this black box, regardless of whether it’s gender politics, domestic violence, the eurozone or the Spanish Civil War.
Reckless Sleepers is a British theatre company founded in 1988, which now has branches in both Great Britain and Belgium. All of the company’s artists are theatrical specialists with additional expertise in dance, performance, the visual arts, design or education. The British-Belgian company’s repertoire includes plays, installation projects, interventions for galleries, museums and site-specific projects. With their production Negative Space, they broke all their own rules, developed over the years, to create a virtuosic piece of post-dramatic theatre.
